How To Make World’s Best Scones

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/2 cup add-ins such as chocolate chips, dried fruit, or nuts
Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.

Pour the milk mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

If desired, fold in your chosen add-ins, such as chocolate chips or dried fruit.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Don’t overwork the dough.

Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick. Use a sharp knife or biscuit cutter to slice the dough into 6 or 8 wedges.

Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with a little milk or beaten egg for a golden finish.
