  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • Gold food coloring
  • Edible gold dust
  • Edible gold flakes
  • Candy canes, mini ornaments, or other festive decorations

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a round cake pan.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry mixture.

  6. Stir in a few drops of gold food coloring to achieve the desired color.

  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. Allow the cake to cool completely before removing it from the pan.

  10. Once the cake is cooled, prepare the gold drip by mixing edible gold dust with a small amount of water to create a thick paste. Drizzle the gold mixture along the edges of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  11. Decorate the cake with edible gold flakes and any additional festive decorations, such as candy canes or mini ornaments.
