  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet with butter or cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a saucepan, melt butter, cocoa powder, and water together. Bring to a boil, then pour over dry ingredients. Mix well.

  4. Add buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract to the mixture and stir.

  5. Pour batter onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly. Sprinkle chopped pecans over the top.

  6. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly in the center.

  7. Let cake cool for a few minutes before serving.
