  • 2 cups flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup chopped fig newtons

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.

  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in buttermilk and chopped fig newtons until just combined.

  5. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently.

  6. Pat dough into a disk and cut into 8 equal pieces.

  7. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 18 minutes, until golden brown.

  8. Serve warm with butter and jam.
