Ingredients

  • 4 cups of milk
  • 1/4 cup of masa harina
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the masa harina, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.

  3. Gradually whisk the dry mixture into the hot milk until well blended.

  4. Add the cinnamon sticks and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

  6. Remove cinnamon sticks and ladle the champurrado into mugs.

  7. Serve hot and enjoy!
