Ingredients

  • 2 cups kidney beans, soaked overnight
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the soaked kidney beans until tender.

  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.

  3. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

  4. Add ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Cook for a minute.

  5. Add tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.

  6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Mix well.

  7. Add the cooked kidney beans along with some water.

  8. Add salt to taste and simmer for 10-15 minutes.

  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro.

  10. Serve hot with rice or chapati.
