How To Make Beer Glazed Brats and Sauerkraut
Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 bratwurst sausages
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
- 1 cup beer
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hot dog buns, for serving
Instructions
-
Preheat grill or grill pan to medium heat.
-
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened and golden brown, about 5 minutes.
-
Push the onions to one side of the skillet and add the bratwurst sausages. Cook the sausages, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the beer, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Pour the mixture over the sausages and onions in the skillet.
-
Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the sausages are cooked through and the liquid has reduced slightly.
-
While the sausages are simmering, grill the hot dog buns until they are lightly toasted.
-
To serve, place a bratwurst sausage in each toasted bun. Top with the beer-glazed onions and sauerkraut. Serve with additional mustard and enjoy!
