Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 25 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup hazelnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mincemeat
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, butter, and sugar. Rub the mixture together with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.

  3. Stir in the chopped hazelnuts.

  4. Gradually add a little cold water at a time to form a dough. Knead the dough gently until smooth.

  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Using a round cookie cutter, cut out circles that will fit into a muffin tin.

  6. Line each muffin tin with the pastry, pressing it gently into the corners.

  7. Spoon a tablespoon of mincemeat into each pastry case.

  8. Use the remaining pastry to create a lattice or crumble topping over the mincemeat.

  9. Brush the pastry with beaten egg.

  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.

  11. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.

  12. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
