Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups of heavy cream
- 1 cup of whole milk
- 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
-
In a medium saucepan, heat the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar over medium heat until it starts to steam, but not boil.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks until they become pale in color.
-
Slowly pour the hot cream mixture into the egg yolks while continuously whisking.
-
Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
-
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Let the mixture cool completely, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
-
Once chilled, transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
-
Transfer the churned ice cream to a lidded container and freeze for an additional 2-4 hours to firm up.
-
Serve and enjoy the creamy and delicious ice cream base on its own or add your favorite mix-ins and flavors!
