Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the brewed coffee. Mix until just combined.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. Once the cake has cooled, spread the caramel sauce evenly over the top.

  10. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

  11. Slice and serve.
