How To Make In-N-Out Animal Style Protein Style Burger Recipe

A healthier version of In-N-Out’s famous burger with protein style lettuce wrap and secret spread sauce.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 4 large lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices of low-fat cheddar cheese
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat.

  2. Divide ground beef into 4 balls and flatten into patties.

  3. Season both sides of each patty with salt and black pepper.

  4. Cook patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until desired doneness.

  5. On a separate skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onions until caramelized.

  6. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, sugar, paprika, and garlic powder to create the secret spread sauce.

  7. To assemble the burger, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom, followed by the patty, cheese, caramelized onions, and secret spread sauce.

  8. Top with another lettuce leaf and enjoy!
