How To Make Chickpea Curry Recipe

A rich, aromatic and flavorful Indian curry dish made with chickpeas and spices.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp of ginger, grated
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tsp of ground cumin
  • 1 tsp of ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp of garam masala
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they turn translucent.

  2. Add garlic and ginger and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

  3. Add tomatoes and cook until they start to break down, stirring occasionally.

  4. Add ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

  5. Add chickpeas and 1 cup of water. Stir well to combine. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and let simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.

  6. Serve the chickpea curry hot with rice or flatbread. Sprinkle with fresh cilantro if desired.
