How To Make Out of This World Turkey Brine

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon of water
  • 1 cup of kosher salt
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of whole black peppercorns
  • 2 tablespoons of dried rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons of dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons of dried sage
  • 2 tablespoons of dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon of onion powder
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 turkey (12-14 lbs)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the water until boiling. Add the kosher salt and brown sugar, stirring until dissolved.

  2. Remove the pot from heat and add the black peppercorns, rosemary, thyme, sage, parsley, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir to combine.

  3. Allow the brine to cool completely.

  4. Place the turkey in a brining bag or a large container.

  5. Pour the cooled brine over the turkey, ensuring it is completely submerged. If needed, add more water to fully cover the turkey.

  6. Add the orange slices and lemon slices to the brine.

  7. Seal the bag or cover the container and place it in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours or overnight.

  8. Remove the turkey from the brine and discard the brine.

  9. Rinse the turkey thoroughly with cold water to remove any excess salt.

  10. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.

  11. Cook the turkey according to your preferred method, following standard cooking time and temperature guidelines for the size of the turkey.

  12. Once cooked, let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
