Refried Beans Recipe

Given to me by a friend while we lived in California. Very good recipe. Great with tacos, burritos, or my Chili Rellenos Recipe. Hope your family will enjoy these as much as my family does.


This recipe is easy to make with only a few ingredients needed and you can serve it as a side dish for any of your meals, or you can also make it as a dip for your chips.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb dry pinto beans
  • ½ cup bacon grease
  • ½ cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • salt , to taste

Instructions

  1. Sort beans, removing rocks.

  2. Rinse thoroughly.

  3. Put in a large cooking pot and cover with water.

  4. Bring to a boil.

  5. Lower heat; cover.

  6. Simmer until done for approximately 3 hours, adding water as needed.

  7. Beans should be covered with water at all times.

  8. When done, drain all liquid except for ½ cup.

  9. Transfer beans to skillet and mash.

  10. Add bacon grease, cheese, and liquid.

  11. Heat thoroughly.
