This is a very adaptable recipe, also excellent with asparagus or with pecans substituted for walnuts

How To Make Lemon Green Beans with Walnuts

Walnuts add a nutty flavor and a crunchy texture when paired with lemon green beans for a healthy and light dish.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 lb green beans, trimmed and cut into 2 inch pieces
  • ½ tbsp butter, unsalted and melted
  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  2. Arrange nuts in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  3. Toast in the preheated oven until lightly browned, approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Place green beans in a steamer over 1 inch of boiling water, and cover.
  5. Steam for 8 to 10 minutes, or until tender, but still bright green.
  6. Place cooked beans in a large bowl, and toss with butter, lemon juice, and lemon zest.
  7. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Transfer beans to a serving dish, and sprinkle with toasted walnuts.
  9. Serve immediately.
