Slow Cooker Greek Chicken Gyros with Tzatziki Recipe

How To Make Slow Cooker Greek Chicken Gyros with Tzatziki

The slow cooker does most of the work in making these chicken gyros. Tender chicken, fresh vegetables, and a cool yogurt-cucumber sauce complete the dish.

Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 6 hours
Total: 6 hours 10 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2lbchicken breast,boneless skinless
  • 1onion,chopped
  • 2clovesgarlic,minced
  • 1tspdried oregano leaves
  • ½tspsalt
  • ½tsppepper
  • 3tbspolive oil
  • 1tbspred wine vinegar
  • ½medium lemon juice
  • cupwater

For Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 2cupsplain greek yogurt
  • 1cucumber,finely grated
  • 3clovesgarlic,minced
  • 1tbspwhite wine vinegar
  • 1tspdried dill weed
  • 1tspdried oregano leaves
  • salt and pepper,to taste
  • ½medium lemon juice
  • 1tbspextra virgin olive oil

For Serving:

  • warm pita bread
  • red onion
  • red pepper
  • romaine lettuce
  • cucumber,diced
  • tomatoes,sliced

Instructions

  1. Spay a slow cooker with cooking spray. Add the chicken to the slow cooker.

  2. In a small bowl combine onion, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, and water. Pour over chicken. Cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours or High for 4 to 6 hours.

  3. In a medium bowl combine greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, white wine vinegar, dried dill week, dried oregano. Salt and pepper to taste and add lemon juice and drizzle olive oil on top.

  4. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to let the flavors blend.

  5. Prepare chicken on warm greek pita bread with desired veggies and sauce on top.
