How To Make Monte Cristo

Level up your sandwich game with this Monte Cristo recipe. Slices of cheese, ham, and turkey in egg-dipped, pan-fried bread make for the perfect lunch.

Ingredients

  • 6sliceswhite bread
  • 4tbspmayonnaise
  • 4slicesswiss cheese
  • 4slicesham
  • 2tspyellow mustardoptional
  • 4slicesturkey
  • ½cupmilk
  • 4eggs
  • 4tbspbutter
  • 2tbsppowdered sugaroptional

Instructions

  1. Place 2 slices of bread on a cutting board. Spread mayonnaise on each slice of bread. Top with a slice of cheese, and 2 slices of ham.

  2. Add the second slice of bread and spread with a little bit of mustard if desired. Add 2 slices of turkey and a slice of cheese. Add the 3rd piece of bread.

  3. Using a cutting board or the bottom of a frying pan, gently press the sandwich. Cut off crusts (to help seal the sandwich).

  4. In a small bowl, mix together milk, eggs, and salt & pepper until combined. Dip sandwich into the egg mixture.

  5. Preheat skillet over low heat and add butter. Add sandwich and cook for 4 to 6 minutes.

  6. Flip and cook for 4 to 5 minutes more or until cooked through and melted.

  7. Dust with powdered sugar if using. Serve warm with strawberry jam.
