How to Make Italian Sausage Sandwich

  • 3⁄4 lb bulk Italian sausage, hot or mild
  • cups spaghetti sauce, jarred
  • 1⁄2 cup ripe olives, black or green, sliced pitted
  • 1 red onion, sliced in half rings
  • 1⁄2 sweet red pepper, sliced in strips
  • 4 french rolls
  • 6 oz mozzarella cheese


  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. In a skillet brown sausage.

  3. Drain off the fat, stir in the sauce and olives, heat through.

  4. Split rolls lengthwise without cutting through opposite side.
  5. Hollow out buns slightly, halve cheese slices lengthwise.

  6. Place 1 piece of cheese on the bottom half of each roll.

  7. Divide meat mixture evenly among the 4 rolls, top with onion and sweet peppers.

  8. Place another cheese slice on top and close the rolls.

  9. Wrap each sandwich in foil and seal, place on a baking sheet and bake the wrapped sandwiches in the oven for approx 15 minutes.

  10. Unwrap serve and enjoy!
