How To Make Caprese Sandwich with Basil Pesto

This caprese sandwich is just slices of ciabatta bread filled with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil pesto drizzled with balsamic glaze.

For Basil Pesto:

  • 2cupsfresh basil
  • ½cupparmesan,freshly grated
  • 3garlic cloves
  • ¼cuppine nuts
  • olive oil

For Sandwich:

  • 1medium tomato,sliced ¼-inch thick
  • 8slicesmozzarella cheese,sliced ¼-inch thick
  • 4ciabatta buns,or bread of choice
  • balsamic glaze,for drizzling


  1. In a food processor, combine the basil, parmesan, garlic, pine nuts and olive oil. Pulse until the olive oil looks emulsified and the pesto looks uniform.

  2. Slice the bread in half and spread pesto on one side. Layer the cheese and tomatoes and drizzle with balsamic glaze.

  3. Serve and enjoy!
