How To Make Sweet Rice Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of basmati rice
  • 4 cups of whole milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder
  • 1/4 cup of mixed nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios), chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of ghee (clarified butter)
  • A pinch of saffron strands (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.

  2. In a large heavy-bottomed pot, add the milk and bring it to a boil over medium heat.

  3. Add the drained rice to the boiling milk and let it cook on low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the rice is tender and the mixture thickens, about 30-35 minutes.

  4. Add the sugar and cardamom powder to the pot and mix well. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  5. In a separate small pan, heat the ghee over low heat. Add the chopped nuts and sauté until they turn golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside.

  6. Once the rice is cooked and the sugar is dissolved, remove the pot from heat. Let it cool for a few minutes.

  7. Serve the sweet rice warm or chilled, garnished with the sautéed nuts and saffron strands (if using).
