How To Make Italian Pizza Dough

Enjoy soft Italian pizza dough made with 5 simple ingredients. Yeast, all-purpose flour, and olive oil are combined for a tasty crust with a nice rise.

  • 2 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • tsp salt
  • cups warm water
  • cup olive oil
  • 6 cups all-purpose, or 00 flour



  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine yeast, sugar, salt, water, olive oil, and 5 cups of flour.

  2. Knead on low until dough starts to come together. Continue kneading until the dough forms a nice, soft dough ball and the sides of the bowl are clean, adding more flour as necessary to achieve this texture.

  3. Divide the dough into 4 to 6 equal pieces. Dust with remaining flour and place on a baking sheet or large tray. Cover and let rest 4 to 5 hours.

  4. When ready to bake, roll dough into large circles. Place crust on a pizza pan or cornmeal dusted pizza peel. Top with desired toppings.

  5. Bake pizza in a 550 degrees F oven on the pizza pan, or transfer the pizza from the pizza peel to a pizza stone. Bake until toppings are warm, bubbly, and browning.

  6. Serve and enjoy.
