Orzo With Celery and Mushrooms Recipe

This dish is a good replacement for rice or potatoes. It has a delicious taste of its own!

How To Make Orzo With Celery and Mushrooms

A wonderful pasta recipe that is largely similar to risotto, but with less starch resulting in a cleaner and lighter broth. A wonderfully rich broth that complements the shape and taste of this unique pasta along with the wonderful combination of flavors from celery and mushroom.

  • 1 lb orzo, cooked al dente
  • 3 large celery stalks, with leaves , chopped
  • 13 ¼ oz can mushrooms, drained , chopped
  • 1 tsp celery seed
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cups low sodium chicken broth
  • 2 pkg chicken broth, MBT instant flavored chicken broth mix
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper


  1. In pot, boil water for orzo.
  2. When orzo is cooked, make sure it is al dente and drain.
  3. Cool and set aside.
  4. In large deep skillet, slowly heat oil and butter.
  5. Saute and mix together: chopped celery, mushrooms, garlic powder, ground pepper, celery seed, and the two packages of instant broth mix.
  6. Saute until celery is firm.
  7. Add the orzo to the skillet to combine the orzo with celery mixture and stir well.
  8. Mix in the chicken broth and stir.
  9. Slow simmer for 5 minutes.
  10. Serve hot as side dish, or a meal in itself.

Recipe Notes

For vegetarian version, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
