Cheesy Potato Gratin Recipe

This Potato Gratin is cooked to cheesy perfection and baked to a crispy crunch on the outside.


How To Make Cheesy Potato Gratin

Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes, sliced into 1/4 inch slices
  • 1 onion, sliced into rings
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 ½ cups Cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

To prepare the casserole dish:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Butter the casserole or ramekin dishes.

  2. Layer 1/2 of the potatoes into bottom of the prepared casserole dishes.
  3. Add the onion slices, and the remaining potatoes on top of the onions.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set the casserole dish aside.

To make the cheese sauce:

  1. Using a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Throw in flour and salt. Stir constantly with a whisk for one minute.

  3. Add in milk and cook until mixture has thickened.

  4. Place cheese into saucepan and continue stirring until melted.

Assemble and bake:

  1. Pour cheesy sauce over the potatoes, and cover the dishes with aluminum foil.

  2. Bake 1 ½ hours in the preheated oven.

  3. Let cool, remove aluminum foil and serve.
