How To Make Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce

Make authentic Thai satay with this chicken satay recipe. It even has a recipe for making homemade peanut butter sauce to complete the whole dish.

Marinate Time: 30 minutes
Total: 1 hour 25 minutes



For Chicken Satay:

  • ¼cupdried lemongrass
  • ¼yellow onion
  • 4garlic cloves
  • 1tspSriracha
  • 1tbspfresh ginger
  • ½tspturmeric
  • 2tbspcoriander,ground
  • 1tbspcumin
  • ¼cupdark soy sauce
  • 2tbspfish sauce
  • cupbrown sugar
  • 2tbspvegetable oil
  • 2lbschicken breast,cut into 1-inch cubes

For Peanut Sauce:

  • 1cuppeanut butter,smooth
  • cuplight soy sauce
  • 3garlic cloves
  • 2tbspsesame oil
  • 1inchfresh ginger
  • 1tspSriracha
  • 2limes,juiced and zested


  1. Soak your wooden skewers in water.

  2. Add all the ingredients from the chicken marinade except for the chicken in the food processor and puree until smooth.

  3. Add the marinade to the chicken pieces and let marinate for as long as possible (30 minutes minimum but ideally one day).

  4. Thread about 6 to 8 pieces of chicken onto a wooden skewer.

  5. Cook on a grill or grill pan over high heat for 2 to 3 minutes per side.

  6. To make the peanut sauce, add all the ingredients of the sauce together in a small food processor and puree until smooth.
