How To Make Ham Hock and Mustard Greens Recipe

A hearty dish with melt-in-your-mouth ham hock and mildly spicy mustard greens.

Ingredients

  • 2 ham hocks
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 pound mustard greens, rinsed and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  2. In a large oven-safe pot, brown the ham hocks on all sides over medium-hight heat.

  3. Add the onion, garlic, and bay leaf and cook for about 5 minutes.

  4. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil.

  5. Cover the pot and transfer to the oven. Cook for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until the ham hocks are tender.

  6. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  7. Sauté the mustard greens for 5-7 minutes or until they have wilted.

  8. Season with salt and pepper.

  9. Serve the ham hocks with the mustard greens on top.
