Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup fresh tangerine juice
  • 1 tbsp tangerine zest
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Using a pastry cutter or your hands, cut in the chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together tangerine juice, zest, vanilla extract, and egg.

  5. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  6. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently until it comes together, about 5-6 times.

  7. Pat or roll dough into a circle that’s about 1 inch thick and cut into 8 equal wedges.

  8. Transfer scones to prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

  9. Serve warm with your favorite jam or butter.
