Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ cup soft shortening
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ cup milk
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp salt
Cinnamon Topping:
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
Instructions

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

Grease and flour a 9 by 9-inch square pan.

Mix sugar, shortening and egg.
- Stir in milk.
- Measure flour; blend dry ingredients and stir in.
- Spread batter in pan.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon topping.
- To make cinnamon topping, mix ingredients and sprinkle over coffee cake before baking.
