Ingredients
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup quick cooking oats
- 6 tbsp melted butter , or regular margarine
- 1 square unsweetened chocolate
- ¼ cup butter , or regular margarine
- ⅔ cup flour, sifted
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
Fudge Frosting:
- 1 square sweetened chocolate
- 2 tbsp butter , or regular margarine
- 1 ½ cup confectioners' sugar, sifted
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 5 tsp hot water
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift together ½ cup flour, baking soda, and ¼ tsp salt into mixing bowl.
- Add brown sugar and oats.
- Mix well.

Stir in 6 tbsp butter.

Pat mixture into a 9-inch ungreased baking pan.
- Bake in oven for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare filling.

Melt chocolate and ¼ cup butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Remove from heat.

Cool slightly. Sift together ⅔ cup flour, baking powder, and ¼ tsp. salt.
- Set aside.
- Combine sugar, cooled chocolate mixture, and egg.
- Beat with electric mixer at medium speed for one minute.
- Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk.
- Beat well after each addition.
- Blend in the vanilla and the walnuts.
- Spread over the first layer.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until done.
- Cool in pan on wire rack. Frost with Fudge Frosting.

Cut into 1 ½ squares.
- To make frosting, combine unsweetened chocolate and butter or regular margarine in a small saucepan.
- Place over low heat until melted.
- Remove from heat.
- Cool to room temperature.
- Combine confectioners sugar, vanilla, hot water, and the chocolate mixture in a mixing bowl.
- Mix until smooth and creamy.
