Banana Bread Bars Recipe

How To Make Banana Bread Bars

Get both cake and loaf textures in these banana bread bars! It’s made from bananas and sour cream for a fluffy finish, topped with a brown butter frosting.

Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 25 minutes
Total: 35 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • cupssugar
  • 1cupsour cream
  • ½cupbutter,softened
  • 2eggs
  • cupsripe bananas,(3 to 4 bananas)
  • 2tspvanilla extract
  • 2cupsall purpose flour
  • 1tspbaking soda
  • ¾tspsalt
  • ½cupwalnuts,chopped, optional

For Brown Butter Frosting:

  • ½cupbutter
  • 4cupspowdered sugar
  • tspvanilla extract
  • 3tbspmilk

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease and flour 15×10-inch jelly roll pan. For the bars, in a large bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy. Blend in bananas and vanilla extract.

  2. Add flour, baking soda, salt, and blend for 1 minute. Stir in walnuts.

  3. Spread batter evenly into pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Brown Butter Frosting:

  1. Heat butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until boiling. Let the butter turn a delicate brown and remove from heat immediately.

  2. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Whisk together until smooth. It should be thicker than a glaze but thinner than frosting.

  3. Using a spatula, spread the brown butter frosting over the warm bars.

  4. Serve and enjoy.
