How To Make Louise’s Italian Cafe Bolognese Sauce

A rich and flavorful Italian meat sauce served over pasta.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 2 cans of crushed tomatoes (28 oz each)
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.

  2. Add onion and garlic, cook until softened.

  3. Add ground beef and pork, cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.

  4. Add carrots and celery, cook until tender.

  5. Add the crushed tomatoes, red wine, beef broth, tomato paste, and seasonings.

  6. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

  7. Serve over cooked pasta.
