How To Make Aebleskiver (Danish Pancakes)

Ableskiver is the Danish equivalent to pancakes and now you can have this breakfast dish at home. Apply generous amounts of spices for a savory treat.

Ingredients

  • 1cupwhole wheat flour
  • 2tbspwhite sugar
  • 2 ½tspbaking powder
  • ½tspsalt
  • ¼tspground cinnamon
  • 1dashground nutmeg
  • 1dashground cloves
  • 1egglightly beaten
  • ¾cupmilk
  • 2tbspunsalted buttermelted
  • 1tspvanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Stir the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves together in a large bowl; mix in the egg, milk, butter, and vanilla until just combined.

  2. Heat an aebleskiver pan over medium heat; prepare with cooking spray.

  3. Pour the batter into each cup to about ⅔ full. Allow the batter to cook in the bottom of the cup for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown.

  4. Use a long skewer or knitting needle to lift one edge and give it a ¼ turn. The uncooked batter will spill over into the cup, and cook. Continue lifting and turning the edges until the batter is fully cooked into a golden brown ball.

  5. Drain on paper towels.
