How To Make Banana Oatmeal

Turn your leftover bananas into a healthy and breakfast meal with this banana oatmeal recipe. Cooked oatmeal topped with banana and pecans.

  • 1cupmilk
  • ½cupwater
  • 1cupold fashioned oats
  • ½cuplow-fat buttermilk
  • 1overripe mashed banana
  • 3tbsplight-brown sugar
  • ¼tspCinnamon
  • tspsalt
  • ¼tspvanilla
  • 2tbspbutter,or cream, optional
  • 2tbsppecans,chopped, optional


  1. Bring water and milk just to a boil in a medium saucepan. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in oats, buttermilk, mashed banana, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.

  2. Cook for 5 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove oatmeal from heat, stir in vanilla, and optional butter or cream.

  3. Cover with a lid and let rest for 3 minutes. Serve warm topped with optional chopped pecans.
