Ingredients

For Dough:

  • 1 ½cups warm water
  • 1tbspsugar
  • 1tbspsalt
  • 2 ½tspactive dry yeastor 1 packet
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3tbspbuttermelted
  • 1egg yolkbeaten, for brushing
  • kosher salt

For Boiling Water:

  • 5cupswater
  • cup baking soda

Instructions

Dough:

  1. Combine water, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl. Let sit 5 minutes or until foamy.

  2. Add melted butter and stir in flour a bit at a time until well combined.

  3. Mix with a dough hook for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic, or knead by hand for about 10 minutes.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, then cover with a towel and let rise for 60 minutes or when it has doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

  6. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.

Boiling Water:

  1. Bring water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.

  2. Divide the dough into 4 pieces.

  3. Roll each piece into a 24-inch rope, then cut dough into 2-inch pieces.

  4. Drop dough pieces into boiling water for about 10 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and allow water to drip away.

  5. Place the dough on a prepared baking pan, then brush each bite with egg yolks followed by a sprinkle of salt.

  6. Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. Serve with your favorite dip, and enjoy!
